Election Procedure for the 2019 SCNCA Board of Directors

The annual elections for the 2019 Southern California / Nevada Cycling Association Board of Directors are coming up soon.
Below is the Timeline for the 2019 SCNCA elections:

NOMINATION

The SCNCA Secretary will accept written nominations and acceptances of candidates from October 1 through November 1, 2018.
Nominations must be made in writing to the SCNCA Secretary (email: info@scnca.com) in one of two ways:

  1. The designated representative of any SCNCA Member1 may nominate eligible2 candidates; and
  2. Any interested USAC licensed member in the SCNCA catchment2 may self-nominate.

Appropriate candidate nomination forms are attached.

ACCEPTING NOMINATION

Once nominated, each eligible nominee must submit an acceptance form and may submit a written candidate statement to the SCNCA Secretary. Candidate acceptance forms and statements will be accepted by the Secretary through November 5. Candidate statements will be posted at www.scnca.com starting October 1 and as they are received through November 5.

VOTING

Online voting will begin on November 7, at 9 a.m. Members will receive an email with online voting instructions. The end of the voting period will be November 15 at noon.

Five of nine two-year Board of Director seats turn over this year. Each Member (club or organization) may cast one vote each for a maximum of five candidates (up to five votes total). The five candidates with the most votes will join the 2019 SCNCA Board of Directors. If there are less than six candidates, every candidate who receives at least one vote will become a Board Member.

Announcement of the election results will take place on November 20. The ratification of the election result, and the seating of the new board of directors will take place at a board meeting in early January of 2019.

The new Board will then commence the election of officers, and begin carrying out their business.

1 SCNCA Members are Clubs, Stand-alone Teams not part of a Club, and Race Director Associations (RDOs) that are currently USAC-licensed and have not opted out of USAC communication.

2 Eligibility to be a Director, per Article 5.1 of the SCNCA bylaws:

“To be qualified to serve as a Director an individual must be (a) a licensed member of USAC of any type (including the following: racing, coaching, official, mechanic, UCI Support, and Race Director) and (b) a resident in the Southern California and Southern Nevada Region. Individuals are not eligible to be a Director if such person has been expelled as a licensed member, either by the corporation or USA Cycling. Individuals with a financial interest in, employed by, or serving as trustee or officer of an organization offering non-USAC sanctioning of competitive cycling events are not eligible.”
